david march
Date & place of birth:
May 5 1967; Exeter, Devon.
Profession:
Managing Director of the new company Projected Image
Digital Ltd. along with my long-time friend Jim Douglas who is co-Director as part of a sister business to his own company Projected Image Ltd. With the excellent reputation that Jim has built as an expert provider of the best gobos, we are very excited to be growing an organisation that can provide both 'analogue' and 'digital' content services for lighting professionals using the latest technology.
What was your first professional job?:
Upon the insistence of my parents to 'get a proper job', I spent a few years in retailing as a Section Manager for Waitrose - a rewarding time in many ways, most of all as I met my wife there!
Why the early interest in lighting?
Initially at school and then with local amateur dramatics, I would light anything from the town panto to plays. I was hooked and I left school at sixteen to undertake the ABTT Theatre Electricians' course.
Your biggest inspiration?
My late father who inspired me to never stop trying your best and go that extra mile in all that you do.
What's been your biggest professional achievement?:
I am particularly proud of my time as General Manager of Vari-Lite Europe. It was wonderful to contribute to growing an international business and we achieved many milestones in terms of customer service and introducing moving lights into more traditional sectors such as theatre and TV.
Is RADlite going to change the world?
I certainly think that the convergence of video and lighting will continue, and RADlite answers the call from many LDs to gain control of the complete visual stage picture. Content is crucially important and together with the RADlite we can provide an immensely powerful tool for many applications from stage shows through to fixed Installations.
What was the last record/CD you bought?:
Antonio Forcione - one of Europe's best kept secrets. He is one of the greatest acoustic guitarists with a most charismatic and inventive style.
The last live show you attended as a punter?:
Antonio Forcione at The Stables - Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth's intimate venue in their back garden, which was recently rebuilt as a modern 200-seater concert hall. I have paid to see a number of gigs there and the atmosphere is always electric and it beats the hassle of London venues.
Any hobbies?
My family.
If you were to meet up with the teenage David March, what advice would you give him?
Stay on at school, retake those failed exams and chill out - there is plenty of time for the serious business of being grown-up!
