KENNY PUTS THE HIP INTO HOP

The partnership of top lighting designer Tom Kenny and Production Resource Group (PRG) helped give The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards in Miami its unique vibe.

"I wanted to fill the venue with lights from every angle without putting together a large rig," explained Kenny, whose CV includes such greats as The Who, Bowie, Page & Plant and Santana. "I collaborated with art director Tom McPhillips to come up with a design consisting mainly of MAC 2Ks over the stage and Studio Colors and Spots over the audience."

A PRG client for 14 years, Kenny chose to light the event with 48 High End Studio Colors, 50 High End Studio Beams, 40 Martin MAC 2000 Wash Lights and 32 Martin MAC 2000 Profiles, controlled by two ETC Insight IIx consoles and four Whole Hog IIs.

"It was an unbelievably great experience working with Gary Mass, Nick Freed and the rest of the crew at PRG, especially now that they've opened an office in Miami," commented Kenny. "Their equipment is always prepped well and in top shape, and their customer service is fantastic."
