ONE BIG MEDIA SERVER!
MARTIN'S MAXEDIA CONTROLS MULTIPLE SCREENS AT BBC RADIO 1 EVENT
BBC Radio 1's One Big Weekend took place over two days beneath a Kayam tent in Prehen, Derry and Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The first day was Dance Day with the Chemical Brothers and Faithless playing live; the second day, Band Day, saw performances by Kelis, Franz Ferdinand, Ash and Avril Lavigne. Each day was a sell out with over 10,000 people in attendance.
Martin Professional's new Maxedia media server took care of more than 20 LED screens placed around the venue, creating a unique atmosphere. The fast programming and easy access during playback made the Maxedia the optimal choice for getting the job done.
Electric Fly Productions (EFP) designed and supplied all the lighting and video production for the event. Lighting and visuals were created and co-ordinated by Nick Jevons of EFP. Jevons created the design using Martin's lighting design software package, ShowDesigner. The design was based on three 50ft trusses, front, mid and rear, and centered around a 'fragmented video screen' concept.
"We used 36 25mm LED video modules hung over the three trusses in an exploded fashion," explained Jevons, "and in the gaps I placed Martin MAC 2000 Profiles, 2000 Wash, MAC 600 and Atomic 3000 strobe fixtures. Plus we had audience lighting which consisted of MAC 600s, MAC 500s and Atomics.
"We replayed all our video content through Maxedia so it became a major part of our show. The Dance Day was fast and furious while the Band Day was more controlled. Our vision mixer Joey Jevons found the Maxedia extremely easy to use after a days training from Simon Allan (Martin UK Stage & Studio/Controllers Product Manager) who first told me about the product."
Maxedia is capable of handling a multitude of digital media - images, video, 3D graphics, and more. Output as a video signal to video/plasma screens or any type of video image projector, Maxedia boasts a number of advantages over other digital media servers including running up to a maximum of 20 layers simultaneously, real time manipulation features, integrated DMX control and more.
