    Instructions for supplying PDFs

    Please find below checklist for creating PDFs to our printers specifications. Settings can be downloaded at the bottom of this page, if you have any problems downloading them the production department can email them to you.

    STEP 1 - Download relevant Distiller setting and install.

      Please choose the relevant software, unzip/unstuff it, and copy it to the settings folder of Your Adobe Acrobat Distiller. Make sure the file name ends with .joboptions. Please note there is a pdf accompanied with this to list to show the correct distiller settings.

    STEP 2 - Download relevant application printstyle and copy instructions
    STEP 3 - Ensure you have the correct print driver installed
      Quark 4/5 - Before setting up Quark please ensure that you have a copy of the Acrobat Distiller printer driver. This file goes into the system/extensions/printer descriptions folder in Mac OS 8.6/9 and is used for Quark version 4/5. You should find it in the Acrobat Distiller folder in the xtras folder after installing Acrobat. Please be carefull not to use the file named Acrobat Distiller.ppd this will change your file to rgb the file you need is called Acrobat Distiller.

      OSX Virtual printer - So the printer setup utility in Osx can see the Acrobat Distiller printer driver (acrobat distiller) the driver needs to go into the system/library/printers/ppds/contents/resources/en.projs folder

    STEP 4 - Ensure your artwork is set correctly before PDFing
      Before setting up Distiller and creating a pdf please check your page makeup files as per our guidelines:
      • All images are cmyk and are ideally 300dpi - our preflighting software will pick up any images below 150dpi.
      • All images are saved without any transfer functions and postscript colour management profiles embedded into the file.
      • All pages that have require bleed should be pulled out from the trim to give a mimimum of 3mm bleed.
      • All pages should not have any type closer than 5mm from the trim.
