Formula Sound and Funktion One launch FF-6000 mixer
Formula Sound and Funktion One marked the launch of their new collaborative venture - the new FF-6000 Dual Format DJ mixer - with a party and speeches for clients and press at Jimmy Woo's nightclub in the heart of Amsterdam. DJs were on hand to demonstrate just what Formula Sound's latest mixer could do, showing off the FF-6000's extensive features and layout, which have been determined in collaboration with leading loudspeaker designers Funktion One, who canvassed many DJs world-wide on their requirements. The result is a mixer of the highest sound quality which incorporates the features and layout specified by the end-user DJ.

The project represents the two companies' combined frustration at the lack of genuinely high-fidelity and user-friendly equipment for the modern performance DJ. Speaking at the event Tony Cockell, Managing Director of Formula Sound, commented on the decision to combine forces with Funktion One to create a product for a more sophisticated and professional DJ.

"We were approached by Tony Andrews on behalf of Funktion One who were finding that their high quality systems were being compromised by the mixers in use. We decided to collaborate on a mixer project to address this problem - our design task was to produce a mixer with a control layout and functionality that appealed to today's performance DJs - and of course it had to sound great."

Tony Andrews, managing director of Funktion One, said that currently available DJ mixers were the weakest audio link between front end components and reproduction of sound to the dance floor. Speaking about the collaboration, Andrews commented:

"We suggested to Formula Sound that we collaborate on marrying the electronics from their PM100 mixer with an interface suitable for the modern DJ. Funktion One took opinions and suggestions from engineers and DJs from Europe and the US which we then interfaced with Formula Sound's production engineering requirements to arrive at the FF6000.

"The FF6000 is the only sonically acceptable mixer on the market for Funktion One and we hope that we have got the interface right."
