The Debating Chamber is one of the most prestigious, complex spaces of the project. Intense coordination between EMBT/RMJM and OVI were essential. The lighting consultants had to interface several software programs to prepare the demanding calculations required to achieve specific aiming angles for good 3-dimensional modeling, and light intensities of 500 lux vertical to meet TV Broadcast conditions. The symmetrical seating plan and asymmetric ceilings with a multitude of structural elements, trusses and suspension cables further complicated the locations for lighting hardware. ERCO 'Stella' projectors were selected as a 'technical tool' to balance the architectural quality of the spaces with technical demands for TV/Broadcast requirements. State-of-the-art CDM metal halide lamp technology and the integral, standard product features of the ERCO projectors were essential for the task. Specifically, the 'vario' lens which allows lockable adjustment of the light distribution from a 10-degree spot to a 70-degree flood. In addition, OVI introduced technology from Boeing aircraft into the Stella projector series, to provide the luminiares with captive screws - which is especially important maintaining the luminaires in high ceilings.
