On 29th September, a new lighting system was inaugurated in Piazza del Popolo, Faenza in Italy. To enhance the scenarios that distinguish the various activities of the square, Viabizzuno, the Bologna based lighting manufacturer headed by Mario Nanni, created and patented the Luna Nascente lighting fixture. This is a motorised system which, because of its special structure, provides discreet, non-invasive light. Thanks to special software-guided programming, light can be varied according to the different times of the evening and night, or according to the seasons, in relation to the habits of the town or city and its inhabitants. During the day, the lighting fittings retract into the roofs; on the contrary, in the case of evening sports, political and cultural events, the arms of the Luna Nascente fully extend and stop in different positions according to the type of event to be lit, until they are parallel with the ground to diffuse their light over the entire square.
The concept of 'Meno luce meno' is the guideline of the entire project, which literally means 'less light less', expresses the possibility of experiencing the square in a more intense, more intimate way, in total harmony with the urban area and sky, obtaining ideal lighting by subtracting light.
