RADIANCE AWARD: SITE/FACADE
Galleria West, Seoul, Korea
Proving what can be achieved with LEDs and giving a shot in the eye to those who think that the use of such technology cheapens their profession, the Galleria West wraps Xilver LEDs around the volume of the building to form a new fluid and dynamic architecture of light. By day, the front of the building shows off a sophisticated frosted glass facade, and at night it transforms into a vibrant and scenic experience. This effect was achieved with 5,000 backlit frosted glass discs.
