I believe the ceiling lighting looks wacky...
You bet. Architects Karsten K. Krebs and Ansorg created special light objects and 3D luminaires on a black background to turn the ceiling into a futuristic kind of baroque.
How was it done?
Six Ansorg Beam spots act as light projectors equipped with metal halide lamps attached to the top of the lightwell. Dimmable fluorescent fittings with T5 lamps in Warm White illuminate the field which is closed with translucent film from behind. The concealed shelf-system lighting illuminates the rest of the room. This is where light boxes with T5 fluorescent lamps and colourful, silk screen printed sheets of Plexiglass are used. Standing luminaires with high voltage halogen lamps provide additional decorative effects. Suspended downlights provide suitable lighting for the actions in the room with both direct and indirect light control using movable mirrors on the ceiling. These have three shiny chrome-plated spots reminiscent of a propeller.
