MONDIALE EVENTS ANNOUNCES FIFTH ANNUAL LIVE PRODUCTION INDUSTRY AWARDS SHOWCASE...

Bigger, better, harder, faster... you've heard it before, but anyone who attends the TPi Awards every year will know that each event has seen major improvements over its predecessor - from the quality of presentation and the roll call of special guests, to the food!

Despite rumours of a change of venue, the 2006 TPi Awards - held on the evening of Monday 30 January - will once again return to the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, west London, close to the Carling Apollo.

Mark Cunningham, creative director of the TPi Awards, commented: "Every year we attempt to raise the bar just that little bit more, and we're currently in discussions with a number of production companies and designers to ensure that, once again, the industry's top annual social event will be a night to remember."

Previous years have seen such musical legends as Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Midge Ure, Motorhead's Lemmy, Blur's Damon Albarn, jazz king Chris Barber and soul icon Sam Moore share the TPi Awards stage with the likes of broadcasters Paul Gambaccini and Mike Read, pop star-turned-actor Martin Kemp, Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis and music politician Feargal Sharkey... not to mention pre-recorded award acceptances by Sir Paul McCartney, U2 and Bob Geldof.

Can it get any better? "There will be some moments next January that will at the very least match what we've presented to date," said Cunningham. "Some people have joked that in order to compete with having had Messrs. Gilmour and Page grace our event over recent years, we'd probably have to resurrect Jimi Hendrix, but I don't think that will be necessary!"

Responding to pressure to extend the awards categories beyond the standard 25, to incorporate other deserving areas of the industry, the programme will remain unchanged for 2006, Cunningham reported. "We could easily make it 35, and there are very solid arguments for other categories. But until we can find a way to acknowledge all these other people and companies properly, and still make it an entertaining evening for everybody, we'll stick to what appears to be a successful formula. However, this very subject is constantly under review, so who knows how this event will develop in the future?"

One important change in the voting procedure concerns the detail submitted by the voter. From this year it will be necessary for the voter to give a nomination in all categories and support their nomination by stating an event or project that the nominee is/was associated with. In addition, a full name, address, e-mail and contact number must be given. Incomplete voting forms will be discarded, along with any obvious multiple voting from one organisation. This applies to both faxed and posted versions of the form that accompanies this issue of TPi, and online voting.

Prior to the evening programme, the Novotel London West will be hosting the PSA's Annual General Meeting and Open Forum, which everyone in the industry is welcome to attend and field questions to the panel. Last year's Open Forum provoked a wide range of important issues and actions, many of which will have an extremely positive effect on the way this industry is run.

Further information about the 2006 TPi Awards and the PSA's daytime programme will be published in forthcoming issues of TPi and at the TPi section of the Mondiale website at www.mondiale.co.uk, where online table booking and awards voting forms are now accessible.
